HYDERABAD: Awami Tehreek has condemned diversion of Indus river flows for Dasu power project and launch of digital census, which is feared to be used to convert Sindhis into minority.
The party`s central committee which met here on Sunday with its president Lal Jarwar in the chair noted that natural course of the river was being diverted for Dasu power project, which would eventually destroy Sindh`s economy.
The meeting said that closureof old natural waterways in 2022 led to artificial flood and devastated large tracts of farmland while negative implications of Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) and Left Banl( Outfall Drain (LBOD) were witnessed by entire world, it said.
It observed that the government would have to take steps to avert shortage of water in Sindh by all means and the rulers would have to put an end to antipeople policies.
Lal Jwarwar said that PPP`s Sindh government in collusion with federal government had diverted the natural course of the river for Dasu power projectand accused Wapda of violating international and national laws on water in the execution of the project.
He said that Punjab`s ruling class had been routinely stealing water from Indus. The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) was patronising forces, which were involved in economic genocide of Sindhi people, he said.
He said that Irsa was committing robbery over Indus river through Wapda under different pretexts like Kalabagh and Bhasha dams.
The meeting warned that the upper riparian could not lift even a single additional drop ofwater without the consent of lower riparian but Wapda had diverted the entire course of the river through Dasu project.
The AT leaders demanded registration of case against Sindh and federal governments and Wapda chairman for endangering ecology, rare species of birds and livelihood of millions of people dependent on the river.
They demanded distribution of water under 1945 agreement between Sindh and Punjab and expressed the fear outsiders would be thrust over the province through digital census that was likely to convert Sindhis into minority.
