THE recent rift between doctors and the Balochistan government placed the healthcare system in a severe crisis. In Quetta, strikes and protests by doctors disrupted medical services, and posed risks to public health. The outpatient department (OPD) remained closed as the doctors refused to perform their duties.
Instead of resolving the issue, the government took a rigid stance that prolonged the crisis. As a result, people had to strugge to receive treatment.
Balochistan`s healthcare sector was already lacking adequate facilities, and the recent disruption made things worse. If the government does care about the people, it should avoid taking rigid actions thataffectthe very people thatit supposedly plans to serve. It must consider the wellbeing of the people in all its decisions.
