Karachi industry sees spike in power bills

By Staff Reporter 2020-03-20
KARACHI: Industrialists are perturbed over inflated electricity bills sent by K-Electric demanding astronomical amounts for an unwarranted decision of the federal government to end the judicious decision of the previous government to provide a Rs3 per unit relief to manufacturers.

North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry President Naseem Akhtar said withdrawal of the discounted electricity tariff offered under the Industrial Support Package (ISPA) is adding to the woes of the industrialists in the ongoing critical situation.

He pointed out that after ending the subsidised tariff, the KE has sent three years` supplementary bills to industries.

Responding to complaints, KE said the withdrawal of ISPA from July to December 2019 was consistent with energy ministry`s notification. This decision to discontinue ISPA during off-peak hours was taken by the ECC on June 26, 2019 and became effective from July 1, 2019.
