LAHORE: A fourth year MBBS student of the King Edward Medical University on Tuesday climbed up a water tank and threatened to commit suicide after failure in exam.
Shakeel Ahmad was of the view that he failed due to tightmarkinganddemanded that the administration passedhim.
Witnesses said Shakeel shortly after leaving class climbed up the water tank of the varsity at around 10:30 at tracting his colleagues and teaching faculty.
The KEMU officials and teachers reached the site to hold talks with him. Police was also called.Meanwhile, Prof Dr Asad Aslam managed to convince the student that his matter would be taken up at higher forum.
However, a senior doctor told Dawn that it was a `staged` demonstration after some six to eight students of the KEMU failed in the supplementary exam.
He said Shakeel was `detained` for one year af ter he failed in the recently announced supplementary exam. `So was the case with his other colleagues who later planned this demonstration prompting Shakeel to take this step to exert pressure on the KEMU admin.
A committee was constituted to look into the matter, the doctor said.
