LAHORE: The service of more than 4,000 diligent worl(ers who had been working on a daily wage basis in Wapda and power distribution companies for the last three years would be regularised.
An agreement to the effect has been reached among All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA) and managements of Wapda and distribution companies, said Union General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed in his keynote speech at a Youth Conference held at Labour Hall on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, linemen holding three-year diploma from a recognised polytechnic institute would also be eligible for promotion as line superintendent and SSO against 10pc reserved quota in the electricity distribution and transmission companies, said Mr Ahmed.
Through a resolution unanimously adopted, the participants expressed concern over the rising number of fatal accidents involving line staff in the distribution companies.
During the last one and-a-half months, five members of line staff lost their lives while performing their duties in Lesco alone, said the resolution presented by Mr Ahmed along with Rizwan Munir, Muzaff ar Mateen, Rana Shalcoor, Haji Younus, Osama Tariq and others. Staff Reporter
