SUKKUR: A large number of men and women belonging to Metlo community staged a demonstration against a private medical centre in Khairpur on Wednesday, accusing the centre`s gynecologist of causing death of their relative, a 19-year-old pregnant woman, after administering her an expired drug.

They demanded action against the centre.

Potesters Dilbar Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Abdul Rasheed and others said they had admitted the young woman to the centre two days agao where paramedical staff on the directives of a lady doctor administered her an expired drug. The patient complained of feeling reaction of the drug after being injected and soon died, they alleged.

They said that when they complained to the centre`s administration, its owner Imtiaz Sheikh had them bundled out of the centre and threated them with dire consequences if they did not keep their mouths shut over the death.

The centre`s owner Imtiaz Sheikh refused to comment on the incident when approached by this reporter.
