A narrow vision

2025-04-20
THE recent gathering of the civil and military leadership in a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security was a crucial step towards containingthe resurgence ofterrorist attacks in the country. Conspicuous by its absence was the country`s main opposition party which, instead, chose to demand the release of its leader who is behind the bars after being found guilty of corruption.

This underscores the pervasive personality-based politics that plagues Pakistan`s national discourse.

By making national security contingent upon individual demands, the opposition is compromising the country`s ability to combat terrorism. It is essential that political parties rise above personality-based politics and engage in meaningful dialogue to address national concerns.

Only by doing so can Pakistan hope to effectively combat terrorism, and ensure a stable and secure future for its people.
