HYDERABAD: None of the 30 builders who were issued notices for their personalappearance before the Sindh Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) director general turned up on Tuesday for the hearing of their respective projects in Hyderabad and its outskirts.

The builders were required to satisfy Sepa that their projects would not contribute to environmental degradation keeping in view of fast-changing land pattern being observed due to the large scale construction work and controlling the effects as per the relevant rules.

Owners of the noticed industrial units, including representatives of 16 sugar mills, however, did appear for the hearing.

Sepa DG Naeem Mughal said that the institution would take the parties showing non-compliance of the rules to the environmental tribunal, headed by retired Justice Nisar Mohammad Shaikh. It would start working soon, he said.

Mr Mughal, who heard owners of industrial units, said that it was basically a question of enforcement of Sepa`s writ that was linked with resource investment in the agency and its district and regional chapters.
