SUKKUR: Two children died after suffering from gastroenteritis near Khanpur Mahar in Ghotki district on Tues day.

They were identified as nine-month-old Fazila, daughter of Muhammad Yousuf Malik, and one-and-a-halfyear-old Robina, daughter of Zulfiqar Malik.

There has been a surge in the gastroenteritis cases being reported at various hospitals in Khanpur Mahar taluka of Ghotki district, where at least 30 children, have been admitted for treatment during the heatwave prevailing in the district for the past couple of weeks.

The heatwave has already killed atleast five persons in Dadu and Khairpur districts over the past two days and hundreds of children with gastroenteritis have been admitted to various hospitals. The mercury hovers around 49 degrees Celisus.
