Drama undergone tremendous change in last decade`

SWABI: The society has witnessed a swif t transformation over the last one and a half decade causing drama to undergo a tremendous change.

This was the crux of the speeches delivered at the prize distribution ceremony of the All Pakistan Performing Arts Competition on Tuesday.The event was organised by the Cultural Dramatics and Entertainment Society of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

Noted artist Hina Dilpazeer was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony during which the GIK Institute`s auditorium was so packed that the people even sat on the stairs.

Students from various universities participated in the three-day competition.

On the last day, the Comsats University staged an Urdu play,Ibtada-i-Ishq, which highlighted changes occurred in lifestyle and human relations over the years.

In the drama, the hero`s unique wish to travel through time and his hilarious experience of different eras educated audience about changes in society. Each stage was presentedso skillfully thatitgot a round of applause from spectators.

BeaconhouseNationalUniversity Lahore students gave an outstanding performance in the form of the drama, Qurtuba Ka Qazi.

It was a story of a qazi torn between his integrity and love for his son, who unintentionally murdered a person. Finally, he handed down a death sentence to his son, fulfilling his duty.

The GIK Institute students presented a comedy play, Churiyaan Kaantay.

In the play, Aamir Khan played an educated man from a povertystricken family. He wanted to marry a wealthy girl, whose parents lived in the US. To arrange money for the marriage, he staged a fake drama of his father`s death to get Rs0.5 million death insurance.

Every scene was sofunny that the audience gave thundering applause several times. The entire auditorium echoed with the laugh-ter.

The last play was Dugdugi presented by Punjab University students. The story was about everyone and devil inside them.

It said whenever we do something wrong, our biggest escape is the devil but now, we should stop blaming the devil because this is the war of human being with themselves.

Speaking on the occasion, HinaDilpazeer said the acting of young actors and actresses enthralled audience on one hand and showed on the other that the country had tremendous talent.

`Actors and actresses just need the platform and guidance and once they get it, they could display their talent with so great skill that then no one will in position to stop young actors or actresses,` he said.

CDES president Omer Farooqsaid Pakistani dramas were known worldwide and that wherever Pakistan actors went abroad, the people expressed their love for them.

Young artist Waqas Tanveer said Pakistani inspirational figures used their acting to motivate and inspire youngsters, who should come forward.

Hina Dilpazeer later gave away prizes and certificates to artists.
