Case against DBA chief`s kin Lawyers deny police access to courts

TOBA TEK SINGH: Lawyers on Friday locked the gates of the Tehsil Courts Complex to prevent entry of police as a protest against registration of a case against a brother of Gojra Bar president Ijaz Akhtar Kahuja.
Speaking at a press conference, Advocate Ijaz Kahuja and other DBA office-bearers alleged that the Saddar police had unjustifiably registered a case against Shahbaz Akhtar Kahuja and 14 others on the charge of attacking opponents.
They said the lawyers in order to pay the police back in the same coin had prevented them from entering the courts complex and the protest would continue till the transfer of the DSP and the SHO.
Gojra DSP Azhar Yaqoob claimed upon contact that an FIR was lodged on the complaint of Bar president Ijaz Akhtar Kahuja against several persons of their rival group in a property dispute case. He said now acase had been registered on the application of the opponents against Shahbaz Kahuja and his 14 accomplices on the allegation of attacking them.
Police were investigating the case and would deal with it on merit, he said.
COVER-UP: Municipal committee officials are reluctant to send a report to Punjab local government secretary into the issue of alleged irregularity committed by some MC officials which changed the seniority list of octroi clerks of the MC.
The local government secretary had received an application of clerk Javed Wali in November 2016 who pointed out that clerk Javed Gulzar who was at the bottom of the seniority lists prepared by MC from 2004 to 2015 had mysteriously been placed on top in the 2016 list.
The LG secretary had sought reply in his letters issued in November 2016 and then in December 2016. He again issued a reminder which was received by the MC on Friday.
