Villagers hospitalised after using polluted water

MANSEHRA: More than 50 people, including women and children, were hospitalised in Oghi on Thursday night after using contaminated water.

Oghi police DSP Shimraz Khan told reporters here on Friday that the Civil Hospit al admitted the residents of Shamdarah village after they complained of gastroenteritis, vomiting, headache and high temperature.

He said 20 patients were later referred to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital Mansehra for treatment.

The DSP said the people fell ill after consuming a mountain stream`s water, which was heavily polluted by a dead fix. He said the remains of the fox were found at the bed of the stream.

The DSP said the condition of all patients was out of danger.

S U B S T A N D A R D WHEAT REJECTED: The district food department has turned away 33 trucks carrying `substandard` wheat.

`We`re procuring wheat from Punjab to meet our district`s needs. However, a fresh wheat consignment was found to be substandard and therefore, we sent 33 trucks carrying it back,` Shaukat Sultan, head of the local wheat godown, told reporters on Friday. Correspondent
