Writers` role in promoting culture, peace stressed

GHALANAI: Poets and writers can play a positive role in promotion of local cultures and development of a peaceful society.
This was stated by Political Agent Mahmood Aslam Wazir while speaking at the `All Fata Peace Literary Session` organised jointly by Mohmand sports and culture department and the local administration here on Friday.
The session was also attended by writers and poets from Bajaur, Kurram, Khyber, Charsaddaand otherareas.
The session was presided over by poet and writer Hayat Roghani of Charsadda, while poet and artiste Naeem Mukhlis Mohmand and poet Ashana Bajauray were the chief guests.
Mr Wazir asked the writers and poets to convey to the world that the people of Fata were peace loving. `Peace can play an important role in the development of a society and therefore we must to unite and work together for sustainable peace in the area,` he stressed.
Momand Adabi Tolana president Hairan Momand welcomed the guests and mentioned the goals and objectives of the literary session.
He presented some resolutions, asking the government to establish a culture centre for holding such gatherings, pay monthly stipends to tribal writers and artistes and help writers to publish their books.
Assistant political agent Abdul Hameed Khattak assured the literary figures of full support and said he would send recommendations to the high-ups for establishing a culture centre in the area. He urged the writers to work for peace in the region.
President of Mohmand Adabi Ghuncha Ghulam Hussain Mohib said that Fata secretariat was not sincere in welfare of tribal writ-ers. He said the Fata Secretariat was spending millions of rupees in the name of culture but the writers were neglected. The Academy of Letters Islamabad has also neglected the tribal writers and artistes, he said.
`Many writers were either kille d or injure dduring militancy, but neither the government nor the NGOs compensated their families, lamented Mr Mohib.
Prizes and shields were also distributed among the writers at the end of the literary session.
