Case against two for trying to drown irrigation SDO

BAHAWALNAGAR: The Minchinabad police have registered a case against two men including an irrigation official for thrashing the irrigation SDO and trying to kill him by pushing him into the canal besides obstruction in government functioning.
According to the FIR, Irrigation SDO Ali Abdullah, along with his team, was repairing a watercourse No L/3000 at 1R/ ESC canal on May 16 when Ramzan Zafar of Tariq Colony and Saiful Mulok reached the spot and asked the team to stop repairing the watercourse.
They abused and thrashed the SDO and pushed him into the canal when he refused to accept their demand, it added.
The FIR said the men then jumped into the canal and tried to drown the officer but the irrigation team intervened and rescued the officer.
Police registered a case against the suspects under sections 506/B and 186 of PPC on the complaint of the SDO.
Sources told Dawn that one of the attackers was an irrigation official and both were politically backed.
Minchinabad SHO Shabbir Shah said police were conducting raids to arrest them soon. The two persons secured interim bail on Thursday.
