FIR against doctor after boy dies during surgery

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Khanewal City Police on Friday registered a case against a private eye clinic owner Dr Zafar Iqbal, his wife and his three paramedics afteranine years oldboy died during surgery.

The FIR was registered after a five-hour protest by relatives.

Complainant Nasir Ali of Jaswant singh locality of Khanewal claimed that he had taken his nephew Farhan for treatment of squinted eye. He said when the boy was brought out of the operation theatre, he had already died. The FIR was registered under sections 302,148 and 149 of the PPC.

In Jhang, Kotwali police registered on Friday a case against a medical officer and two security guards of the DHQ Hospital on the charge of attacking a lawyer in the hospital.

BREACH: A breach occurred in the Gogera branch canal near Chak 461-GB Kaniyan Bangla in Faisalabad on Friday, resulting in the flooding of crops on hundreds of acres.

The breach initially measured 20 feet wide in the morning, but later expanded to 40 feet.

After five hours of struggle using heavy machinery, employ-ees from the irrigation department and Rescue 1122 plugged into the breach.

In another incident, a boy named Sharjeel Shoukat, aged 15 and residing in Ghousia Colony of Faisalabad, drowned in the Rakh branch canal near Mandi Quarters on Samundri Road. His body was retrieved by rescue divers.

GUNMEN: Gunmen in a car attempted to steal goats from Chuttiana Chak 327-GB. However, upon the villagers raising an alarm, the gunmen fled the scene.

While driving away from the village, they collided with a motorcycle near Sem Nullah in Shorkot Cantonment, critically injuring Abdul Rehman and his mother Hameeda Bibi, who were riding as passengers.

The gunmen`s car became inoperable after the accident, prompting them to escape on foot, abandoning their vehicle.

The police have impounded the car and are using motor vehicle registration data to determine the owner`s whereabouts.

AWARENESS MEETING: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) held an awareness meeting with local businessmen on Friday to sensitise them on strict financial discipline in their institutions on a sustained basis, as per the requirement of the Financial Action Task Force.FIA`s Faisalabad circle Director Rai Ijaz Ahmad told members of the Faisalabad Chamber and Commerce Industry (FCCI) that the agency had been mandated to cover a wide range of crimes, including human trafficking, banking crimes, corruption in federal institutions and cybercrime etc.

He said Pakistan had come out of the FATF grey list due to the dedicated efforts of the government institutions and practical cooperation of the business community.

He said earlier there was only one FIA circle in Faisalabad but now a separate circle had been created to deal with the cases of cybercrime, including money laundering.

He said the SBP had established a dedicated Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) and all banks and financial institutions were bound to report any suspicious banking transaction routed through their bank.

He said sometimes hefty amounts from an irrelevant person were transferred into the business account of a company which might invite investigation to dig out its money trail. He said suspicious bank transactions were monitored regularly in all countries and `hence we should also make it a part of our routine business`.
