PESHAWAR: Unidentified armed men killed Pashto singer Gul Naz inside her house at Gulberg area here in the small hours of Thursday, police said.

An official of Gulberg police station quoting Sadaqat, brother of the singer, said that unidentified men barged into their residence and opened fire on her sister. `She received serious bullet injuries on her head and succumbed to her wounds at the hospital in the morning,` he said.

The attackers could not be identified, Mr Sadaqat said, however adding that his family had a dispute with one Arshad of the same area and asked the police to arrest him.

`We have arrested the suspect and also recovered some stamp papers, which show that the singer had a dispute with the suspect and she had also received a heavy amount from him,` the official revealed.

The police said that the suspect wanted to marry her, but he could not succeed due to some problems. `We arrested the nominated person and have started investigation into the case,` he said.

Other sources said that the singer had also come under attack at Gulbahar area a few years ago. Meanwhile, police have arrested about 75 suspected persons during raids at different localities of Peshawar city as part of the campaign against the outlaws.

A police official said that majority of those arrested were Afghan nationals.

He said that they had been staying in Peshawar without proper documents and they would be produced in court for deportation under 14 Foreigners Act.
