KARACHI: Reconstruction and rehabilitation work of Mansfield Street, including laying of sewerage line, construction of footpaths and road, as well as road carpeting have started and is expected to be completed by end of July, according to an official statement issued here.
The work is part of the Saddar Improvement Project under which various roads within the vicinity of the Empress Market will be declared pedestrian zone and thevehcles will only pass through designated roads. The entire project is expected to complete in around six months.
Vehicles could only pass through this area by using Mansfield Street and Dr Daudpota Road while entry of the vehicles to the Mir Karam Ali Khan Road, Preedy Street and Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan Road would be banned.
Under the project food streets would be established on Mir Karam Ali Khan Road and Preedy Street while nightbazaar would be set up on the Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan Road.
Meanwhile, commissioner of Karachi Ijaz Khan who visited the site near Empress Market on Sunday and was briefed on the project by the director of planning and development Mohammad Shkeeb and director of transport and communication Mohammad Ather has directed the officials to work efficiently so that the project could be completed on time.
