I R EGRET to say that the increasing import of milk and whey powders are slowly destroying the local dairy sector and contributing to rural poverty and playing havoc with people`s health.
The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) estimated that the local dairy sector hasbecome unattractive for investors and has resulted in falling milk production owing to the closure of hundreds of farms.
Also, the EPCCI claimed that the local dairy sector has been going down since 2013 owing to the import of milk powder which runs in tens of millions.
Hence, the government and authorities concerned should put out awareness advertisements and hold seminars to inform the public about the difference between fresh milk and synthetic products which are damaging for our future generations.
