RAWALPINDI: The Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 2kg heroin at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Monday and arrested an elderly Umrah pilgrim.

According to a security official, the scanning of passengers for Oman Airways flight WY-348 was in progress when the ASF staff spotted a suspicious pack hidden in an Ihram in the baggage of Aleem Gul.

The ASF took the passenger into custody and recovered a pack containing the heroin. The passenger, who belonged to the Mingora district, told the security staff that he was not aware of the heroin in his bag as the Ihram had been given to him by his neighbour.

Two women were also accompanying the suspect when he arrived at the airport, an airport source said.

The suspect was later shifted to the AntiNarcotics Force (ANF) cell forfurtherinvestigation.
