KHYBER: Khyber district public prosecutor Sultan Mehmud has constituted a two-member committee to probe the June 17 murder of a woman assistant sub-division officer of the education department in Landi Kotal tehsil here.
The committee comprises deputy public prosecutor Zulfiqar Ali and assistant public prosecutor Zubair Qureshi, according to a notification issued by the DPP`s office.
It said the investigators would get hold of the knife used in the murder as well as the call data record of the deceased`s husband.
The body of Rizwana Shaheen with stab wounds was found in a pool of blood inside her official living quarter in Merikhel area on Wednesday.
Sources claimed that district public prosecutor Sultan Mehmud along with the committee members visited the site of the crime, collected information, and recorded statements of the watchman and the deceased`s two sons.
The police in Domail tehsil of Bannu district arrested the woman`s husband, Najeeb, on the day of murder and brought him to Landi Kotal for investigation by the local police.
The police said the accused confessed to killing his life during initial investigation.
They claimed that they`re investigating the murder along scientific lines and would soon ascertain the cause of murder.
Sources claimed that a discord between the man and his wife led to the murder.
The accused fled Landi Kotal along with his four children soon after the murder.
SCHOOLS OPEN: Most private schools in Bara tehsil here are open defying an official notification for their closures on account of summer vacation.
The education department had notified the closure of all educational institutions in plain areas of the entire province for summer break.
However, most of Bara`s 70 privately-owned schools continued to function.
Residents complained that their children were forced to attend classes amid hot weatherdespite the summer vacation notification.
They added that the students` misery was multiplied by the prolonged power outages on campus.
The residents said that power supply to the region remained suspended for around 20 hours daily.
They said that private schools wanted to `fleece` parents of their students for the ongoing month through continued operations.
The residents said that the people protested the flouting of summer break notification by schools and even lodged complaints against them with authorities, but to no avail.
When contacted, Bara Private School Association president Gul Wali insisted that all private schools weren`t open.
`Only the schools, whose students haven`t deposited fees for the last few months, have yet to be closed for summer break,` he said.
Mr Wali said that only grade 8-10 students attended classes, while primary sections of the schools were closed in line with the official notification.
He said that some private schools were struggling to pay their teachers, so they had kept higher classes open to receive the monthly fee from parents.
