JUI-S warns against delaying elections

KOHAT: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami (JUI-S), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has demanded holding of the general elections at the constitutionally-mandated time, and warned that any postponement will prove detrimental to democracy.

Addressing a news conference at the Hangu Press Club on Monday, JUI-S provincial emir Maulana Abdul Wahid Khateeb and naib emir Hafiz Abdul Rafi regretted that the Pakistan Democratic Movement government at the centre was running away from polls due to waning popularity of its component parties.

They said JUI-S`s doors were open for forming an electrical alliance with the parties committed to getting provincial share from the centre.

They disclosed that JUI-S would take full part in the elections, for which organisational work had started within the party They said the recent heavy rains, hail and windstorms had caused human losses, and huge damage to crops, livestock and houses in the southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the rehabilitation required hefty compensation to the affected people without delay.

They urged the federal government to support the province in rehabilitating the damaged and destroyed houses.

ARTWORK: A team of Blood Heroes, an NGO, on Monday painted the walls of the pediatric ward of the KDA Divisional Headquarters Hospital, Kohat, with attractive cartoons, birds, animals, greenery and educational alphabets.

A statement issued here said artwork was meant to highlight importance of social work and to collect blood donations for free distribution among poor patients.

`More such events will be held in all the hospitals to make people, particularly children, aware of environmental issues,` the statement said. It said such events would help to get the children prepared to face the future challenges, and play their role in the progress and prosperity of the country.
