BAHAWALPUR: Local police arrested an assistant sub-inspector for allegedly subjecting a youth to torture and humiliation and keeping him in illegal confinement, while his co-accused constable managed to get interim pre-arrest bail from a court in Lahore on Thursday.

According to sources, Bahawalpur Kotwali police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Niaz Shah was arrested on the orders of District Police Officer (DPO) Hassan Iqbal and a case was registeredagainst him and coaccused constable Junaid Ali under sections 342 and 155-C of the PPC through FIR No 403/25.

The complainant, Ms Shumaila Munir alleged that ASI Shah and constable Junaidtortured and humiliated his son Fahad Talib, who was kept in illegal confinement at the Civil Lines police station, Bahawalpur, without any valid reason.

She also alleged that the police officials picked her son without any charges, just to please her rivals.

However, Junaid could not be arrested as he got a pre-arrest bail from a court in Lahore, the sources says.

On Wednesday, Bahawalpur Civil Lines police had booked a subinspector in a rape case.He was yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, according to a press release, the DPO during an open court held at the District Police Lines, Bahawalpur, dismissed three police officials -an ASI, a head constable and a constable -for abuse of power and corruption.

Besides, three other constables were handed down compulsory retirement, while two SIs were demoted. The DPO warned the corrupt officials of strict action.

MURDER RESOLVED: Head Rajkan police in Yazman tehsil claimed to have solved a blind murder case, in which a youth was allegedly murdered in the name of honour by his own uncle and his accomplice.

According to police sources, the body of oneRizwan alias Jani was found floating in a canal and was retrieved by a Rescue 1122 team the other day.

During investigation, the police came to know that Rizwan, a resident of Thatha Sadigabad, near Dunyapur, had gone to meet his uncle Ramzan near Yazman.

The police sources said Ramzan suspected that Rizwan had relations with his wife. Taking it as a blot on his `honour`, Ramzan, along with his accomplice, Allah Ditta, took Rizwan to canal, where they tied his hands and legs and threw him in deep waters.

The victim drowned.

The police claimed to have arrested both Ramzan and Allah Ditta.

The body of the victim had been shifted to themortuary of Yazman THQ Hospital for the postmortem examination.Two persons including a woman were killed and three suffered serious injuries in two separate incidents.

YOUTH DIES: A young man died, while two others were seriously injured when a recklessly-driven car rammed into a tree near the main gate of Bahawalpur DHA late on Wednesday night.

According to Rescue 1122, the deceased youth was identified as Sameer(20), while Zeeshan (21) and Danish Akram (20) suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman was electrocuted while washing clothes in a washing machine at Darbar Chowk, Hasilpur.
