Meeting endorses report on PFUJ unification

PESHAWAR: Khyber Union of Journalists and Peshawar Press Club through a unanimously adopted resolution have endorsed an investigation report compiled by a five-member senior journalists of unification committee for Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists.

The resolution was passed at a special joint meeting at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday wherein PFUJ investigation committee chairman Rahimullah Yousufzai informed the participants about the details of the committee`s efforts to bring different factions of PFUJ on a single platform.

Mr Yousufzai appreciated the chairman of the unification committee, Ziauddin, and other members for working selflessly to reunite the groups of journalists. According to the investigation report, the election committee for PFUJ elections in 2013 did not play effective role otherwise the division could be avoided in the union.

In its recommendations, the committee has suggested that five senior journalists belonging to the rival groups should avoid contesting elections for one session in the best interests of journalists.

The participants of the meeting also shared views about BDM and PFUJ elections in Peshawar this year and welcomed the decision.

They also put forward suggestions for holding of elections of different union of journalists before election of PFUJ, preparations of transparent voter lists, formation of powerful election committees, implementation of the recommendations of the investigation committee and election of PFUJ president on rotation basis from different provinces.

The meeting also decided to dissolve all the associations formed by journalists on basis of different beats by constituting committees of Khyber Union of Journalists for facilitating the relevant members.

The meeting appreciated the efforts of Rahimullah Yousufzal for taking troubles for investigating the entire process of 2013 elections of PFUJ and fixing responsibilities.

The meeting urged the unification committee to ensue implementation of the recommendations of the investigation committee.

KhUJ president Saiful Islam Saifi, Peshawar Press Club president Syed Bukhar Shah Bacha and other ofñce-bearers were also present on the occasion.
