Bail plea in policemen`s murder case dismissed

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court dismissed on Thursday a bail application filed by an accused in a case pertaining to the murder of a police officer in Karachi.

Ishtiaq alias Policewala, Syed Zakir Hussain alias Agha Adeel, Obald alias K2 and Syed Shakir Shah along with their absconding accomplices have been charged with killing SHO of the Brigade police station Inspector Nasir-ulHasan along with his guard in an ambush in Lines Area in July, 2010.

Shah through his counsel moved the bail application and after hearing arguments from both sides, the ATC-VI judge, who is conducting the trial at the judicial complex inside the central prison, dismissed the application. The court adjourned hearing in the main case till July 30.

Last year, the court had also dismissed the bail applications filed by Shakir Shah and Obald K2.

Obaid was arrested by Rangerspersonnel during a pre-dawn raid on the MQM headquarters Nine Zero in Azizabad in March 2015.

Later, the police booked and arrested him in the present case.

According to the prosecution, Inspector Nasir-ul-Hasan, SHO of the Brigade police station, who was known for an active role he played in the `Karachi operation` of the 1990s, along with his armed guard, Khurram Butt, was targeted when he was returning to the police station in his private jeep.

A case on behalf of the state was registered under sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Brigade police station.

Shabbir alias Dhobi, Taqi Butt alias Mamu, Nadeem, Asif alias Chitta and others are absconders in the case.
