ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Wednesday decided to make a sub-sector of a police station in urban area a beat and appoint an SI as its in-charge, sources in the police department said, adding in rural areas, it (the beat) will comprise three to four villages.

The SI will supervise a team of three to four ASIs, head constables and constables, the sources said while giving details of a meeting, which was presided over by SSP Sajid Kiyani at Rescue15 office.

The sources said the incharge of the beat would keep complete record of crime in his areas. Besides, he will also be responsible for the crime or any untoward incident, the sources added.

A beat in-charge will report to his SHO in various professional matters who (SHO) will provide necessary logistic support and reinforcements to counter an adverse situation, he added.

The purpose behind recasting the beats is to share the burden of SHOs and ensure effective policing with the focus on curbing crime and ensuring protection to the lives and property of the citizens, the sources said. Staff Reporter
