Man gunned down

RAWALPINDI, Sept 19: A young man was killed and nine others, including a woman, were injured in JaspalVillage when their rivals opened fire on them on Thursday, police said.

The quarrel started on Wednesday afternoon when Mohammad Danish went to Mohammad Ilyas` shop to return the hides of some animals he had bought. According to Rashid Shah, one of the relatives of the deceased, it was an issue of only Rs300 over which the quarrel started.

However, he said the issue had been settled at the time and the brothers, Omer Farooq and Mohammad Danish, had left the shop.

`Omer and his brother returned home where prayer for their deceased grandfather was being offered. Several people had gathered to offer Fatiha when Ilyas, along with his two sons, came there and opened fire on the two brothers,` Rashid Shah said.

He added that as a result of the firing, ten people were injured, including a woman, Ms Fauzia.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where Omer Farooq, 19, succumbed to his injuries.

The condition of Danish, his brother, is stated to be critical.

Mohammad Farooq, Omer Farooq`s father, told the police in his statement that there had been a quarrel between his sons and the shopkeeper but the issue had been settled at that time.

He further said some of his relatives and villagers were offering prayers for his dead father when Ilyas and his two sons arrived. They opened fire which resulted in the injuries of several people.

He said the killers managed to escape from the scene.

The other injured were identified as Naeem Akhtar, Mohammad Zubair, Naheed Khan, Rashid Munir, Rameez and Mubashir.
