LYA RI Expressway was a huge initiative in Karachi that was planned and executed to help citizens escape the hustle of street traf fic from one end of the city to the other.
Sadly, the number of beggars has increased at the entry and exit points of the expressway.
Regardless of day, time and weather, some of them are always there, blocking the way and obstructing the view of drivers. Unfortunately, the police of ficials patrolling the expressway have f ailed to control them. Also, toll collectors at the booths do not resist the presence of these beggars either. In fact, they just shrug their shoulders when someone complains aboutthese panhandlers.
Begging on or along the expressway is a major concern because if any beggar is accidentally hit by a vehicle, or the vehicle undergoes an accident,the driver will be held responsible for it.
Hence, the authorities concerned should take appropriate and urgent action to remove these beggars in order to avoid unforeseen accidents, and toletthe expressway be used in its designated way.
