MOHMAND: Police repulsed an attack on a checkpost in Dawezai area of Pandiali tehsil here on Sunday night, Mohmand district police officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada said on Monday.

He said at least seven miscreants attacked the Kanara checkpost from different directions.

He said policemen, and FC personnel guarding the post effectively repulsed the attack.

Mr Sahibzada said the police from different areas was also called as reinforcements, adding there was no loss of life in the firing.

Security was put on alert at all the checkposts across the district after the attack.

Meanwhile, a peace rally was taken out from Safi Khakh Bazaar to Ghalanai on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the participants said the government should take concrete steps to curb incidents of targeted killing and extortion.

Safi jirga organised the rally.

MPA Nisar Mohmand, JUI-F district emir Maulana Mohammad Arif Haqqani, PTI`s Sajjad Momand, PPP`s Waheed Mohmand, Malik Sher Rehman and others said the tribesmen and the law enforcement agencies had rendered matchless sacrifices for restoration of peace in the district. They regretted that killers of two brothers were still at large despite passage of one and a half month since the attack took place in Safi tehsil on August 2. The protesters also staged a sit-in on the Peshawar-Bajaur highway outside the Mohmand Rifles headquarters and raised slogans for peace.

Later, they walked to Mohmand Press Club in Ghalanai Bazaar, passing through different roads and markets.-Correspondent
