HYDERABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan naib emir Liaquat Baloch has said that announcement of fresh polls will bring down political temperature in the country and advised national dialogue to extricate the country from the present crisis.
He said at a programme organised by Al Khidmat here on Monday for the distri-bution of relief goods that appointment of army chief should be made on the basis of merit, seniority and in line with relevant consutudonalprovisions.
He said that political and economic uncertainty could be ended by announcing fresh polls. It would do nobody no good if the army`s institution was made controversial. It would be advisable that the prime minister should not exercise his discretion in the COAS`s appointment amid present conditions, he said.
He said that prevailing conditions demanded that people showed seriousness but it was not being seen. Despite receiving assistance and loans from IMF and World Bank the national economyhad not shown any signs of improvement, he said.
He said that the country needed a truly representative and strong government today. All flood and relief donations should be made public and relief and rehabilitation work should be done in an organised and disciplined manner, he said.
He said that nobody knew how the international flood assistance was being disbursed as no mechanism had been made so far. People in Sindh were frustrated that the government was not ensuring their rehabilitation while billions of rupees expenditure was being claimed, he said.
