PESHAWAR, Oct 19: The University of Peshawar arranged a special Eid day function for its students hailing from foreign countries and far-off areas here at the university`s guesthouse following Eid prayers.
The party was attended by foreign students along with those hailing from Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan and the restive Kurram and North Waziristan tribal agencies studying at the main campus, said a UoP press release.
Dean faculty of Numerical and Physical Sciences Prof Gulzar Ali Khan, registrar Dr Fazl-i-Hadi and other university officials welcomed the students at the party.
In his address on the occasion, Prof Gulzar reiterated the institution`s resolve to make all possible arrangements to facilitate foreign students and encourage their enrolment percentage in the university.`We are present among you today so as to share this moment of joy together at a time when you are away from your family and hometowns on this Eidul Azha,` he said.
Prof Gulzar said that foreign students should project the real image of Pakistan and its people to the whole world.
He said that he was sure that after graduation from the UoP the foreign students would help in rectifying most of the misperceptions about this part of the world.
He also said that special steps were being taken to encourage more people from the under-privileged tribal areas to take admission in the UoP.
Prof Gulzar said that students from hard areas should have the quest for achieving academic excellence because they had to prove a point that people of their area were peace-loving, progressive and wanted a safer world.
