Over 2m flood-hit families provided assistance`

ISLAMABAD: The government has so far extended unancial assistance to as many as 2,687,926 families affected by the floods this year, said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation Faisal Karim Kundi here on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr Kundi said that over 97pc of the affected populadon has beencovered.

Out of 2,759,601 f amilies, 2,687,926 have received financial assistance, he said.

An amount of Rs 25,000 per family was being provided to the floodaffected families in a transparent way, he said.

He reaffirmed the government`s strong commitment to fully rehabilitate the flood-affected people Giving other details of the government social protection programme, he said Benazir IncomeSupport Programme (BISP) is planning to launch a dynamic survey from Dec 15 to register more deserving families in the country and those affected recently by the devastating floods.

An MoU in this regard has been signed with National Database and Registration Authority.

At present, there are 8.2 million beneficiaries registered for the social safety net financial assistance which would rise to around nine million af ter this survey.
