Girl, boy die by suicide in Ghazi

HARIPUR: A girl and a boy killed themselves by jumping into the Ghazi Barotha power channel, the Ghazi police claimed here on Tuesday.
They said divers searched in vain for the bodies.
The police said the reason behind `collective suicide` was not yet known, police said, adding that the local divers despite attempts failed to find clues of the two who believed to have died, police said.
The Ghazi police quoted witnesses as saying that the girl, 18, and the boy, 19, jumped into the Ghazi Barotha power channel at its RD 9 point together before they`re swept away by the strong current of water.
The divers searched for the two but didn`t find them.
Police were skeptical about the chance of the boy and girl`s survival.
They insisted the coupleappeared to have loved each other and killed themselves over hurdles to their marriage.
Meanwhile, an elderly woman was killed over a family property dispute in a remote village of Dheenda union council, the police said on Tuesday.
They said the accused was a woman from the same family.
Amjad Iqbal of Baso Maira village told police that his mother, Bibi Zar Jan, 85, was home with other women from the family when the female members of Nasir Khan`s family hurled stones at them.
He added that some villagers stopped women from attacking the family but Saeeda Bibi, wife of Nasir Khan, entered their home and smashed his mother`s head with a club, critically injuring her.
The injured was shifted to the trauma centre but the doctors declared dead.
The complainant alleged that the accused`s brother-in-law, Mohammad Ehjaz, abetted in the crime, which was caused by a property dispute.
The police registered a case against the accused and beganasearchforher.
