MPA accuses district admin of harassing supporters

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The PML-N MPA, who is heading a group in the local council polls against the party candidates, has alleged the district administration is being used by the local MNA against his supporters.

MPA Abdul Aleem Shah led a demonstration on Hospital Road and a held sit-in in protest at a raid by the district health officials on a pharmaceutical agency of Union Council (UC) Chairman Sheikh Nageeb, who was Shah`s supporter in election for the Dera Ghazi Khan mayor until the raid. Protesters also burnt tyres.

Mr Shah alleged the district administration was interfering in local bodies elections. The MPA is leading his group against the PML-N nominee for the mayor slot, who is relative of ruling party MNA Hafiz Abdul Karim.

District Health Officer Dr Gul Hasan raided the medicine agency of Mr Nageeb late on Sunday.

Af ter the raid, Mr Nageeb announced joining the MNA camp.

Also, the PML-N con-vener for local body elections of south Punjab, MNA Abdul Ghaf ar Dogar held a party meeting at Circuit House in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday where he said Mr Shah was no more the part of the PML-N, while stern action would be taken against the UC chairmen opposing the candidates.

He said 18, out of 27, UC chairmen were supporting the party candidate while more chairmen would soon announce their support for party`s nominees.

Mr Shah said that MNA Karim had spoiled the culture of the PML-N by using unfair means against UC chairmen, who had been elected on the PML-N ticket.

He said he was protecting party members against undemocratic attitude of the MNA. He said the top party leadership had assured him neutrality but the district administration was playing in the hands of the MNA.

He said police had registered a case against five workers of the PML-N, including the son of Mr Nageeb in the wake of late night protest. He said he would remain in the PML-N.
