FAISALABAD: Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana has said that politicians should shun their differences and join hands to work on the national agenda.

Addressing the 7th convocation of the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) here on Monday, the governor said a lot of hard work was required to achieve goals in the education sector.

The governor congratulated the students who received degrees at the convocation.

He said the government had undertaken various projects and was working in the right direction for the well-being of the masses.

He said the dispensation of social justice was the responsibility of the government which was making every effort for the provision of education, health and drinking water for the masses.

Mr Rajwana said though the situation wasnot that ideal, the country had started making progress because of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and power projects.

GCUF Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Ali said at least 47,263 students were enrolled in the institution which made it the second largest university of the country.

He said the university had developed linkages with the industrial sector in the district.

Two academic blocks and two girl hostels have been completed at a cost of Rs800 million while the federal government has provided Rs780m for research, he added.

The VC said that Rs300m had been allocated for the pension funds of employees while Rs65m were earmarked for the endowment funds to provide scholarships to the deserving students.

In the BS programme, at least 2,887 students, in BA 9,079, in MA/MSc 6,401, in M.Phil 469, in PhD 31, in BEd and MEd 1,786 students received their degrees.
