Ex-president Alvi gets protective bail in another case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday granted protective/transitory bail to former president Dr Arif Alvi in another case registered in Punjab.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi directed the petitioner tofurnish a solvent surety of Rs25,000 and appear before the trial courts within 20 days.
The former president moved the SHC and submitted that he belonged to the Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf which had been subjected to a campaign of targeted persecution for an extended period.
The petitioner also maintainedthat the PTIhad engagedin peaceful protests, but party workers were subjected to torture and the authorities had been filing multiple FIRs against the petitioner and other party leaders as well as workers across the country.
He further submitted that another case was lodged against him at Wah Cantt police station and sought protective bail to appear beforethetrialcourtand availlegal remedies provided under the law.
In December, the SHC had also granted protective bail to the petitioner in three cases lodged in Punjab.
After the hearing, the former president said that around 15 cases had so far been registered against him in different cities across the country.
