RAWALPINDI: An under-trial prisoner who escaped from the high security Adiala jail on Tuesday night was recaptured within 36 hours.
Inspector General of Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir said Nauman Gul, a drug suspect, was re-arrested and sent to jail on Thursday.
He said officers and officials responsible for the escape of the under-trial prisoner were warned to ensure his re-arrest otherwise disciplinary action would be initiated against them. He said that 12 teams were formed to trace and arrest the suspect. The teams with the cooperation of the police and intelligence agencies caught him.
He said houses of relatives and friends of the suspect in Chakwal and Bhara Kahu were searched. His relatives were questioned and as a result the UTP was traced and arrested from Bhara Kahu by a team led by the jail deputy superintendent (executive) and the capital police.
The superintendent of Central Jail Rawalpindi had informed the Home Department that the suspect was shifted to the jail on January 11, 2025 on judicial remand in a case registered on January 10 by Bhara Kahu police of Islamabad.
