KARACHl: A young man was shot dead by suspected robbers in Ittehad Town late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Area SHO Javed Akhtar said the deceased, identified as 28-year-old Muhammad Umar, was sitting outside his home along with his cousin when armed pillion riders arrived there and tried to snatch cell phone from him.

However, as he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled. As a result, he suffered a critical bullet wound on his abdomen. He was initially taken to the nearby Murshid Hospital where he was given first aid. Later on, he was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where he died during treatment on Thursday, the SHO added.

The officer said that at the time of the incident, there was no electricity in the area.

However, the police were still trying to obtain CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the killers.

The victim`s cousin, Khalil, told the media that Umar had come to the city from Dubai a few days ago.
