Minor boy among three killed in accidents

KARACHI: Three people, including a minor boy, were killed in separate incidents involving heavy vehicles in the city early on Thursday morning, said police and rescue services officials.
In the Bufferzone area, a water tanker hit and killed a minor boy.
Taimuria SHO Saqib Khan said the tanker driver had provided water in Nasir Brohi Goth near KBR Society. But as he reversed the heavy vehicle, it hit 8-year-old Saim Rehman, who died on the spot.
The incident angered residents who smashed the tanker and damaged it. The police arrested the suspect driver, who was identified as Sheeraz alias Juma Khan.
In a separate incident, a young man was killed while his relative critically injured in a clash with a 22-wheeler truck on National Highway near Anwar Baloch Hotel, Shah Latif Town SHO Raja Abbas told Dawn. The officer said the victims were coming from Saddar. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Mohammed Amir, 35, died during treatment while his brother-in-law, Sajid, 28, was admitted for treatment.
He said the driver and conductor were detained by police and the truck was impounded. The police had registered an FIR on the complaint of the victim`s brother, Kaleemuddin, against the driver under Sections 320 (grievous hurt), 379 (theft) and 427 (mischief casing damage) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The third incident occurred on Sharea Faisal where a 19-year-old Bykea rider was killed.
Area SHO Faisal Gul Khawaja told Dawn that victim Shakir Ali`s motorcycle collided with a dumper truck from behind near the National Highway Authority office.
He was taken to the JPMC where he succumbed to wounds during treatment.
The officer said that the deceased, a rider for Bykea, was apparently overspeeding. His relatives could not be traced immediately, he added.
Meanwhile, 12 passengers were injured in a collision between a dumper truck and mini-bus near Mowach Goth Bridge on Thursday morning.
Saeedabad SHO Idris Bangash said the mini-bus driver was operating the vehicle on the wrong way when it hit the truck. The bus driver managed to escape from the spot. The victims were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where one of them was stated to be in critical condition, the SHO added.
