Car-truck collision claims two lives

TAXILA: A collision between a car and a truck claimed the lives of two women, while three others were injured on the Hakla, D.I. Khan Motorway (M-14) near Fatehjang on Thursday.

Motorway police spokesperson said the dead and injured belong to the same family. The ill-fated family was coming from Pindigheb to Islamabad when, near Fatehjang, the car driver lost control due to speeding and rammed into a truck from the rare. The impact tore the car apart, killing two women on board instantly.

Three others, among them two women, were shifted to the headquarters hospital by rescue 1122 and FWO ambulances. The condition of the injured is stated to be critical. Fatehjang police registered a case and launched further investigation.

Meanwhile, in a crackdown against the narcotics selling mafia, the Attock police on Thursday arrested as many as six drug peddlers and recovered over 11 kilograms of contraband, including 11 kilograms of hashish and 1.40 kilogram of opium.

According to a police spokesman, during a crackdown against drug sellers across the district, Hasanabdal police arrested a drug peddler identified as Shabbir Ahmad and recovered 5.50 kilograms of hashish and 140 grams of opium.

The same police raided the den of Muhammad Shahryar in village Shahiya and recovered 1.40 kilogram of Hashish. The Attock city police arrested two drug peddlers identified as Muhammad Usman and Shoukat Naeem and recovered 2.825 kilograms of hashish from their possession.

The PIndigheb Police recovered 0.70 kilogram of hashish from Mahmood Sarwar while the Attock Khurd police recovered 0.60 kilograms of hashish from Saqib Mahmood.

Separate cases were registered against the accused under section 9-c of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and started further investigations.
