LPG dealers protest crackdown

GUJRANWALA: Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealers association and other shopkeepers pulled down shutters on Thursday in protest at the arrest of their leaders and a crackdown on them by the district administration.

The district administration has banned the sale of LPG in the city.

The city assistant commissioner got arrested association`s divisional president Tariq Mughal for violating the ban and sealed his agency and other shops.

LPG dealers say they decant and fill approved cylinders by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, which is not illegal.

They said the shortage of LPG had created problems for vehicle owners and the public.

They demanded that the Supreme Court and the prime minister take action against the district administration for its illegal action against them.Criminal coordination committee The district justice criminal coordination committee met on Thursday and expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of government departments.

The meeting was presided over by District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar and attended by several officials of the government department.

The sessions judge directed the city police officer to complete the investigation of pending cases and send them to courts.

He also ordered the city traffic officer to revamp the traffic system, particularly motorcycle stands outside the sessions court.
