LAHORE: A suspected robber was allegedly shot dead in an encounter with the police in Harbanspura here on Wednesday.
Identified as Ghulam Bari, the suspect was wanted in some criminal cases.
A source claimed that a team of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) raided a house at Mehar Fayyaz Colony to nab Bari. On seeing the police, he fired at the raiding team, he said adding that the police retaliated.
Later, the suspect was found killed in firing by the police,the source said.
A police officer, however, claimed that he committed suicide by shooting himself to avoid arrest.
The PO was wanted in some criminal cases, he said adding that recently he had allegedly killed a young man in Defence on offering resistance.
In another incident in Sanda area, Abdullah (24) reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house. Quoting initial inquires, a police official said Abdullah of Hakeemanwala Bazaar seemed to be a mentally challenged person.
