THE condition of our womenfolk hasn`t improved because only cosmetic measures have been taken to empower them though the constitution demands all-round equality and justice for them.
Successive PPP-led coalition governments in the past have had made history by enhancing opportunities for women empowerment.
They made history by appointing women chief executives of many constitutional, statutory and other bodies, both at the centre and in provinces. They also established several new organisations to empower and elevate women. But, unfortunately, they did nothing to empower women in the upper and lower regions of Sindh.Recent efforts by a few people friendly and legal eagles who represent different parties in the senate to advocate the cause of women empowerment and make laws that allow them to work as judges of the apex court, deserve praise.
Women with exceptional intellect, proven written communication skills, excellent judgement and judicial skills may be appointed judges of the Supreme Court to continue to have a judiciary that is committed to fairness and justice for all.
The time has come to pick judicious and just women from all federating units and appoint them judges of the Supreme Court.
