AIOU, Numi hold contests to promote French, Korean

llama Iqbal Open University`s (AIOU) Department of French, the National University of Modern Languages (Numl) and the French embassy hosted a cultural festival on Monday to promote French.

The French Embassy`s cultural council Andre De Bussy attended the event as chief guest. Students took part in singing and poem competitions and received appreciation from the chief guest.

The 11th Korean language speech contest was also held in NumI on Monday. Korean Ambassador Dr Suh Dong-Gu was the chief guest and Numl Rector retired Maj Gen Ziauddin Najam and other faculty members were also present.

Dr Dong-Gu said the Korean government is offering more scholarships and job opportunities for Pakistani students and it is now the student`s turn to work hard and make use of these opportunities. He also distributed cash prizes and certificates to the winners of the contest.

The Numl rector spoke about the importance of the Korean language and culture and said the Koreans were committed and hardworking people. He said Korean is gaining popularity with the Pakistani youth and that Numl has started Korean language courses in its regional campuses as well.
