ISLAMABAD: Traffic remained disrupted on Faisal Avenue from Faizabad to Zero Point, while entry and exit points to the Red Zone were also partially closed due to Jamaat-iIslami`s (JI) march in support of Gaza, causing problems for motorists.
Murree Road in the Rawalpindi area, from Double Road to Faizabad, was also closed.
JI staged a protest in the H-8 area against the Israeli attacks on Gaza targeting innocent Palestinians.
The Islamabad Expressway remained blocked for traffic and entry and exit points to the Red Zone were also sealed. However, Margalla Road remained open for those heading towards the Red Zone.
Motorists travelling towards Rawalpindi from Rawal Dam Chowk had to use Srinagar Highway and 9th Avenue to reach their destinations.
`I was returning from my native village, Rawat, via the Islamabad Expressway. When I reached Faizabad, Faisal Avenue was blocked. Then, I moved towards the Rawal Dam Chowk side, from where I used Garden Avenue to reach Sector G-7,` said Ameer Khan, a government employee.
He said Faizabad was the main trouble spot, but people had alternative routes like Garden Avenue, Srinagar Highway and 9th Avenue.
`This is a little hardship, which is nothing. I support JI for raising voice for the voiceless people of Palestine,` he said.
Since it was Sunday, traffic on Islamabad`s roads was already quite light.
The Islamabad Traffic Police had also issued an advisory, proposing alternate routes for citizens.
