QUETTA: Provincial ministers and MPAs of the treasury benches in the Balochistan Assembly have levelled allegations of massive corruption against officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the Passport Office working in Balochistan, claiming thousands of national identity cards and passports were blocked just for minting money.
The session that started two hours behind its scheduled time was presided over by Speaker Raheela Hameed Durrani on Friday evening. The Balochistan Assembly completed its 100 days of the 2016 parliamentary year while unanimously adopting three resolutions.
The session continued despite a lack of quorum after the opposition members staged a walkout over the non-fulfilment of their demand that ministers of the Dr Malik-led coalition government included in the present cabinet resign after the unearthing of the scandalin the Knance department.
Meanwhile, Majeed Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), who is chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Balochistan Assembly, expressed strong reservations against officials of Nadra and the Passport Office in Balochistan, terming both the federal government institutions most corrupt.
Provincial ministers Dr Hamid Khan Achakzai, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel and Liaquat Agha of the PkMAP said that officials of both the federal government institutions were receiving huge sums of money to issue these documents.
`Thousands of CNICs and passports were blocked without any justification in Zhob, Loralai, Pishin and other areas of the province,` Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said, adding that the Mandokhel andMardanzai tribes belong to Zhob district, but Nadra and Passport Office were depriving them of ID cards and passports by declaring them Afghan refugees. On the other hand, he claimed, Afghan refugees were not facing any difficulty in getting both the documents as they were paying huge sums in bribe to the officials.
MPA Manzoor Kakar pointed out that though the law and order situation had improved, a land mafia was grabbing the lands of the people. He said that Frontier Corps Inspector General Major General Sher Afgun had also confirmed land grabbing incidents in Quetta.
Earlier, the Balochistan Assembly unanimously adopted three resolutions.
PkMAP MPAs Nasarullah Khan Zerey, Agha Syed Liaquat Ali, Abdul Majeed Achakzai, Manzoor Ahmed Khan Kakar, William Jan Barkat, Spozmai Achakzai, Masooma Hayat and Arifa Siddique tabled the resolution which reads that the PTV`s transmission in the province is insufficient.
The resolution demands the provincial government approach the federal government for installation of boosters and ensuring recruitment of Balochistan`s youth against the 150 approved posts in PTV Quetta centre.
MPAs Mir Izhar Hussain Khosa, Mir Aamir Khan Rind, Mir Abdul Majid Abro and Ms Rahat Jamali moved a resolution which reads that the M-8 motorway connected Kashmor with Nasirabad division via Shikarpur but passengers had to cover along distance.
