Students protest delay in repair of dilapidated Dir road

LOWER DIR: Students of government degree college, Gulabad, on Monday blocked the AsbanrKhanpur Road in Kitiari area of Adenzai tehsil here against the communication and works department`s failure to repair the dilapidated road.

The protesters chanted slogans against the authorities, and demanded early repair of the road.

Speaking to protesters, AwamiNationalParty`sprovincial general secretary Hussain Shah Yousafzai accused the communication and works department of delaying the road repair for last three years.

Later, MPA Humayun Khan, Adenzai tehsil chairman Feroz Shah and the C&W executive engineer held talks with the protesters, promising to start work on the road rehabilitation within a week.

Afterwards, the protesters reopened the road to traffic.

POWER OUTAGE: The residents of Timergara city on Monday said prolonged power outages had disrupted theirroutine.

Talking to reporters, they said educational institutions, mosques, business centres and homes had run out of water as water supply schemes couldn`t be run because of outages.

The power consumers flayed the authorities for sending them inflated bills despite subjecting them to unannounced loadshedding in hot and humid weather.

They threatened to take tostreetsifthe duration of power outage was not reduced.

Meanwhile, citizens also complained Naanbais were neither decreasing the price of roti despite significant reduction in flour rates.

Talking to reporters, they said after the record production of wheat, the price of 20-kilogramme flour bag had decreased from Rs3,000 to Rs1,800, but the Naanbais across the district were still selling bread at its old price.

The residents asked the district administration to make the Naanbais to decrease the roti rate. Correspondent
