ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has warned India against further aggression saying Pakistan would respond with full force against any misadventure.
The governor delivered a fiery speech at the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, highlighting Pakistan`s military prowess, national unity and the need for legislative reforms based on merit.
In response to Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh`s rhetoric that Operation Sindoor was `just a trailer`, Mr Haider said Pakistan`s response would be more devastating for India.
Speaking to a gathering of lawyers at IHCBA`s auditorium, the governor praised the Pakistan Army`s defence capabilities, claiming that it had `defeated Israeli drones and shot down Indian Rafale jets,` and described recent military actions as `just a trailer` shown to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He credited PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with starting the nuclear programme and his successors with its continuity and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto with advancing Pakistan`s missile technology.
`India was invaded and defeated` using the technology developed under her leadership, he said. The governor added that `the blood of Kashmiris will not go in vain,` stressing that `Kashmir and Pakistan are inseparable.
Mr Haider called for political unity in confronting external threats, stating, `All political parties are united to give an answer to Modi. The nation is with the army.
26th Amendment On the legal front, the governor emphasised the need for merit-based legislation. `Laws should not be made to target individuals. When we make laws for others, they end up affecting us too,` he remarked.
He said the 26th Amendment is not a divine law like every legislation this law may be revisited for improvement. He assured the legal fraternity that he would take up their suggestions with the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He announced that the PPP would deliberate upon the suggestions and legal community concerns would be discussed.
`Whatever requests the lawyers have, write them down. I will take them to Bilawal Bhutto,` he said.
Praising PPP leadership, he described Asif Ali Zardari as the only current leader with a strategic vision and highlighted Pakistan`s progress through CPEC, attributing it to the former president`s efforts.
Earlier, Wajid Ali Gilani, President IHCBA, emphasised the need for judicial reforms, calling for judges to be appointed based on merit and suggesting a minimum age of 50 for judicial appointments. `Stop the culture of favoritism,` he urged.
Mr Gilani also acknowledged the PPP`s historical contributions, including the country`s nuclear status achieved under Mr Bhutto.
lHCBA Secretary Manzoor Jajja urged the governor to introduce legislation for rotation of high court and district courts judges from Islamabad to other provinces.
