Two killed as car falls into ravine in Shangla

SHANGLA: Two people were killed as a car they travelled in fellinto a ravine in the Dehrai area here on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Sharifullah, a public school teacher, and former sub-divisional officer and senior teacher Kifayatullah.
According to police, Sharifullah and Kifayatullah were on the way to Puran to perform an examination duty when the car they`re travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a ravine in the Dehrai area.
Sharifullah died on the spot, while Kifayatullah suffered critical injuries. He breathed his last during treatment at the Shaheed Pir Mohammad Khan Hospital in Aloch area of Puran. The bodies were later dispatched for Lilownai area in Alpuri for burial.
Meanwhile, students showed keen interest in the first book fair held at the University of Shangla here on Tuesday.
The university became operational recently after two years of uncertainty and being run under the umbrella of the University of Swat.
The University of Shangla hosted the `Book Fair, which was organised by its students. Various stalls featuring books on a wide range of subjects were set up.
Students, faculty members and other attendees appreciated the quality of books.
Vice Chancellor Prof Sardar Khan inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon. The students accorded the vice chancellor a warm welcome, who appreciated their efforts for organising the fair. He later visited bookstalls and reviewed some of the books put on display.
The VC said youth were largely engaged in social media and other non-academic activities, whereas a book was a person`s best friend.
`I fully support such events and urge all students to value friendship with books and focus on their education,` he said.
He also expressed his commitment to steering the University of Shangla towards progress and emphasised the importance of regularly organising academic activities, programmes and events.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the vice chancellor appreciated the fair organising committee for its hard work and dedication.
