GUJRAT: A district and sessions judge awarded the death sentence to a murder accused and also imposed a fine of Rs0.5 million.

According to the prosecution, a youth named Fazal Usman Warraich was gunned down by a student group at a swimming pool near Jalalpur Jattan in 2022. Three suspects, Rehman Asghar, Asad and Bilal, were nominated as accused in the case.

Two suspects, Rehman and Asad, were arrested by the police, while accused Bilal had escaped to Libya to go to Italy. However, he was reportedly killedin aboat capsizeincident.

Later, one of the arrested accused, Asad, was released on bail a few months ago. He was allegedly shot dead on June 2 near Jalalpur Jattan by the firing of a rival group.

The case of his murder was lodged with the Saddar Jalalpur Jattan police against a close kin of deceased Fazal Usman Warraich.

The court has now convicted the main suspect and Rehman Asghar.

A spokesperson of Gujrat police said that effective investigation, evidence and prosecution had paved the way for the conviction of the murder suspect.
