Van fire death toll rises to five Another girl student succumbs to her burns

BAHAWALPUR: Another girl student, who had suffered serious burns when a van carrying 20 students caught fire because of LPG cylinder leakage on July 1, died in Nishtar Hospital, Multan, on Sunday.

The victim, Mishaal Zafar, a resident of Liaquatpur, was among the five girl students, who had suffered serious burns in the van fire and were shiftedfromBahawalVictoria Hospital (BVH), Bahawalpur, to burns unit of Nishtar Hospital, after the incident occurring near Ahmedpur East Toll Plaza.

Her parents took her body to Liaquatpur, where her funeral prayers were offered and later she was buried at the family`s ancestral graveyard at Chak 87-A.

With her death, the toll of the van fire incident rose to five as one of the girls had died on the spot, while three others later suc-cumbed to their burns in Nishtar Hospital.

The incident occurred when 20 girl students were returning to their homes after appearing in an exam at a private educational institution at Liaquatpur.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had ordered a probe into the incident and the administration had constituted a five-member inquiry committee for the purpose, whose report is still awaited.

SCHOOL FEE: Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid of the Bahawalpur Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Board of Governor of the Sadiq Public School (SPS), Bahawalpur, to review its decision of increasing the students` fees within 60 days.

The LHC bench issued the directive after hearing the writ petitions challenging the last year fee raise decision by the school`s BoG.

These petitions were filedby Muhammad Talha Ammar Khanand18 others.

According to the petitioners` counsel Nadeem Chaudhry, the learned judge in his judgement directedthe BoG to re-examinethe decision after re-hearing the petitionersor their nominees within a period of 60 days.

The judge also ordered the BoG to devisea mechanism for fixationof feesin future, adding that till then the interim relief already agreed between the parties should be continued.

ARRESTED: The Abbasnagar police claimed to recover 83 kilograms of charas worth millions of rupees and arrested two men coming from Hasilpur.

SSP investigation Syed Jamshed Ali told a press conference that during a blockade of the HasilpurBahawalpur highway on a tip off, Nazar Hussain and Asif were caught after they tried to flee and hide in a nearby cotton field.

He said the police also impounded their vehicle.
